Barnet Primary Care Trust kicked off Cancer Prevention Week with a series of events to promote simple steps to avoid the disease.

Specialist staff will offer free support and advice in public places across the borough over the next week, as part of the annual campaign.

It is estimated that one third of cancers could be prevented through diet, exercise and weight management.

Not smoking and avoiding second-hand tobacco smoke are the most important ways to avoid cancer, according to Barnet PCT.

Staff will be available to discuss these and other lifestyle choices at the following times and venues:

  • Today, 10am to 3pm, Edgware Community Hospital, Burnt Oak Broadway m Friday, 12pm to 3pm, West Hendon Mosque, Brent View Road, West Hendon
  • Tuesday, 11.30am to 2pm, Golders Green Library, Golders Green Road, Golders Green
  • Thursday, May 29, 10.30am to 4.30pm, Multicultural Community Centre, Algernon Road, West Hendon.
