10:09am Wednesday 2nd July 2008

EURO 2008 golden boot winner David Villa has dealt a blow to London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal by declaring his desire to stay with current club Valencia.

After scoring four goals in Austria/Switzerland the Spanish star was declared one of the players of the tournament and attracted interest from Europe's top clubs.

It was thought that both Spurs and the Gunners were preparing bids for the 26-year-old.

But, speaking to Setanta, Villa revealed his intentions to stay at El Mestalla.

"I'm very grateful. I'm happy to be here," he said.

"Hopefully, I'm staying. The president plans to keep the same team to please the fans in order to hve a great team.

"From the start, I've received a lot of affection from the supporters.

"There are further years left on my contract and hopefully I'll extend my stay."

The classy striker found the net 18 times for Valencia last season as they failed to live up to expectation, finishing in tenth place.

His revelation will come as a huge blow to both north London clubs, who were keen to add the talisman to their ranks.
