More than 350 potholes have been filled in the first month of a "pothole blitz".

Haringey Council says it made at least 347 pothole repairs between May 12 and June 13.

These were carried out in response to reports from residents and a new highways inspector, appointed to identify potholes across the borough over a two-week period.

In Highgate, the first ward to be tackled, 128 potholes were dealt with in the first four weeks of the ongoing operation.

The council is investing an extra £200,000 this year - almost double its previous budget - on repairing potholes, after residents placed them as their biggest highways priority in a consultation last summer.

A pothole hotline was introduced to give residents the chance to report holes in roads at any time.

And the council has pledged to make repairs within seven days of them being reported.

Councillor Brian Haley, cabinet member for environment and conservation, said: "This is a very promising start to the pothole blitz. The first month's figures show that we are making substantial headway in improving the quality of our roads.

"I'm very grateful to all the residents who've contacted us so far, and I hope more will now be encouraged to make use of the new hotline. I'd also like to thank the ward councillors for all the support they've shown."

To report potholes call the hotline on 020 8489 3993.
