Man beaten to death in his Wood Green home
Murder scene: police blocked off Kemal Ozdemir's flat, in Gladstone Avenue, Wood Green
Murder scene: police blocked off Kemal Ozdemir's flat, in Gladstone Avenue, Wood Green

A father of two has been found murdered in his Wood Green home.

Kemal Ozdemir was battered to death with a blunt instrument and his body was left undiscovered for up to seven days.

Police were called to the first-floor flat in Gladstone Avenue at around 11.15pm last Friday after neighbours grew concerned that the occupier had not been seen for some time.

Inside, officers found the body of a 42-year-old man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem carried out at Hornsey Mortuary on Sunday gave the cause of death as multiple traumas by a blunt instrument to his chest, neck and head.

Police said the body could have been there for up to a week.

It is believed Mr Ozdemir had two sons, aged 12 and nine, who did not live with him.

One neighbour, a pensioner who did not want to be named, said: "I haven't seen him for a while. The first I knew about it was when the police knocked on my door to see if I had seen anything.

"The police and ambulance came and they were here all night. The police have been guarding the flat all day since.

"It's a shame for something like this to happen to a young man. And for his children it is very depressing.

"I don't feel very safe here at all. It's frightening. I didn't even want to open my door to the police. It's terrible. I just want to feel safe in my home."

No arrests have been made and police say they are keeping an open mind as to the motive.

Detective Chief Inspector Stewart Hill said: "We believe it is likely he was killed sometime between April 26 and May 2 and are appealing for anybody who may have witnessed any person or persons entering or leaving Mr Ozdemir's home in that time, or anybody with any information about Mr Ozdemir's death, to contact police."

Anyone with any information should call 002 345 3715 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
