Children choose "Heartlands High"

A name has been chosen for a new secondary school in Haringey by the primary school children who will attend it.
Heartlands High School became a clear favourite in a competition to find a name for it after ten primary school pupils put it forward.
The young people aged between 8-10 will be among some of the first to attend the secondary school when it opens in 2010 and were rewarded with certificates and £20 worth of gift vouchers for their efforts.
Councillor Liz Santry, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "It's not many pupils who will attend a school they've helped to name.
"Heartlands High School was the name most nominated by pupils and we were delighted to go with that suggestion."
The £26 million school is a central part of the Haringey Heartlands regeneration scheme which includes 2,500 homes such as the River Village development in Hornsey and also a new road linking the south and north of the borough.
The school will also relieve the problem of overcrowding in the borough's classrooms.
The comprehensive will specialise in art and media and have space for 1080 mixed pupils aged between 11-16 with specialist resources for young people with autism.
