    No control in community

We were thoroughly disappointed at Haringey Magistrates Court overruling the decision blocking a new bookmaker from opening along Green Lanes (Bookies will kill our community', April 11).

The Gambling Act legislation introduced by the New Labour Government has taken all control away from our community to decide what type of facilities we want in our area.

We will continue to support residents to see a mixed shopping area in Green Lanes and hope the application may yet be stopped. We urge Tottenham MP David Lammy to support us by calling for a review of the legislation.

Councillors Carolyn Baker and Karen Alexander Liberal Democrat, Harringay
